Drawing Nature in Val-Morin: A Creative Escape to the Laurentians

About two weeks ago, my boyfriend and I spontaneously booked a last-minute getaway to the Laurentides, and honestly, it was the best idea! I was beyond excited, not just for the hiking (which I love), but for all the beautiful nature I knew would spark some fresh inspiration. And let me tell you… it did not disappoint. The landscapes were absolutely stunning!

I especially loved that tree trunk with a bunch of mushroom growths coming out of it and lots of moss! It looked super cool to me! I put my daily hiking ticket there because I love little souvenirs!  We did the hike called the Gélinotte so i drew the little sign they put on trees every few meters so we don’t get lost.  And of course some scenery, the trail and the view point point that was breathtaking!

Even as a self called beginner urban sketcher, everytime I look back at my drawings I relive the trips. It incapsulates it’s soul on a page

The more I draw from life, the more exited I am about stuff I was already exited about because I already picture myself drawing it! I want to experiment with more mediums and take things further. Lately those silly sketches are bringing me more joy than fully polishes digital painting to be honest. And what’s funny is that it’s what gets me the least reach online lol!

Drawing food almost brings back the saliva in my mouth!

We at at this place called Le mouton Noir in Val-David, it was a nice popular place near our hotel. The vibe was nice! I had a nice big burger! The next day after our hike we stoked at Le Val-Mo, which is a restaurant on a golfing site. My pulled pork tacos were insane! I would do a same day trip back there just for those again ahah! It’s a shame it was their last week open of the season!

On the left page I first put some acrylic markers to hide bleeding from another page. Then i quickly sketched some chipmunks because we saw many during the hike. They are sooo cute and tiny! I love seeing animals in nature. Even seeing the random street cats in my neighborhood always makes my day!

So that’s it for today! If people in my area (Greater Montreal) got cool hiking suggestions, please let me know! For everyone else, I hope I inspired you to go outside in nature, take pictures and even sketch a bit! See ya soon!
